then you’ll need to find a way to
fit more vegetables into your daily diet.
The best way I’ve found to do that
is with freshly made green smoothies.
We’ve all heard that the recommended amount of fruit and vegetables is five servings a day, but the truly health-conscious know that 5 servings is just the minimum. The best way to pack-in as much nutrition as possible is with a daily green smoothie, freshly made from raw foods.
Simply put, a smoothie is a blended beverage with a thick, milkshake-like consistency made up mostly of fruit and vegetables.
Just throw some produce and a few other interesting ingredients into the blender, and in a minute or two you’ll have an energizing health drink that’s as filling as a meal.

“…if you saw my driver’s license photo, you wouldn’t recognize me in it — I barely recognize myself! The photo was taken before I discovered freshly made green smoothies, back when I was, well, fatter. After making and drinking smoothies for a year, all of that weight came off, plus my face looks less puffy and more youthful. I eventually had to get new clothes, even my ‘skinny clothes’ were too chubby.Of course, it wasn’t all smooth-sailing: in the beginning, I made some mistakes (pretty much the same mistakes everyone makes). For instance, when I first started, I put milk and banana into a blender and then added some powder I got from a can at the grocery store. Wrong! That is not a freshly made green smoothie! Also, at first, smoothies made me light-headed and wouldn’t sustain my energy, but Dane showed me on to use the right ingredients and the right ratios. It turns out, I needed to add more ‘clean fat,’ such as raw, sprouted seeds. Thanks to Dane, I feel better now than I ever have before. Freshly made green smoothies ROCK!”

How to Use Your Blender to Become Lean and Energized! ~ eBooklet
“…I read the eBooklet on making fresh green smoothies
and promptly set about changing my typical fruit smoothie
to have greens in it.
But I did not believe you when you said to start slowly!
I dumped a bunch of green stuff in the mixer and,
well… you know how it went.
Had to force it down! Now I changed to follow your advice:
start with just a few greens to the mix until I get used to it.
And guess what? I really like adding a little celery
and some radish sprouts.
Very good stuff! I’ll be adding a little bit more over time,
just like you suggested.
Sometimes it’s good to follow advice, eh?”~ Rand Larson, Professional Events Photographer

“…I’ve always been a no-breakfast person.
But what I didn’t realize was that
skipping breakfast only made me lethargic and lazy all day long.
And I’d eat a whole lot more at lunch than I would have otherwise!
So, when I came across Dane’s smoothie recipes,
I decided to give them a shot.
Only one week in and I already feel much more energetic
than I have in the last ten years.
And I also tend to eat less lunch
which is great to control weight.
I plan to start smoothies for lunch too.

Birth of the Green Smoothie Movement
A Green Smoothie has its name because it’s, well, green. The key ingredient is raw, dark green, leafy vegetables like spinach or kale because of their rich nutritional value.
If you’re not used to eating these veggies you might find the taste peculiar at first. Don’t worry, that’s what the fruit is for. Using more fruit in the beginning is a great way to sweeten the taste with natural ingredients.
You also might be interested in sweetening your glass a bit more by adding a teaspoon or two of honey or agave nectar. You can lower that amount when you’re further into your smoothie adventure and your taste buds begin to evolve to appreciate flavors that are less sweet.
When finding a fruit and veg balance think in terms of ratios:
- ◕ a good beginners ratio is 60% fruit and 40% veggies
- ◕ when you’re a pro you’ll want 70% veggies and only 30% fruit
The only way you’ll know your starting balance is to play around with the mix, find what ratio gives you the most pleasure, and move toward more veg at your own pace.
Once you start to notice how energizing and fulfilling these miracle drinks are you’ll be craving them like crazy on a daily basis.

I used to buy a blender each year: the $20 kind you get at the superstore. Then, after about a year, the motor would burn out. Finally, a few years ago, I decided to upgrade to a high-quality blender. And, I haven’t had to buy another one since! Now, I can blend practically anything.
My smoothies are totally liquid now but before with my old kitchen aid I find bits of green stuck in my teeth after drinking. Not good.
